I was out cutting my grass one day and had a God encounter. He began to speak to me concerning the purpose and importance of outreach. The challenge He spoke to my spirit was one of being a witness to my own neighbors. God had my attention, but I had to be willing to see what He was talking about.
As I continued to cut the grass I looked a few doors down and saw a young lady playing outside with her 2 year old son. Sadly, I didn't know her name or her sons name even though we have been "neighbors" for several years. The Father asked me, "Why haven't you invited that little fella to come and play with your boys?". That was a great question! Why haven't I done that? This would have been one of the simplest things I could do. Then God said, "If you meet the basic needs of those around you, then you will open the door to relationships." So, there I was being schooled in the simple by God Almighty. He was showing me that my habit of making things "mysterious" in the Kingdom only gave me excuses to not demonstrate them.
Within the next two days myself, Megan and the boys were outside playing and there was no way I was going to let another chance slip by without responding to what the Lord had been showing me. Before you knew it, there was my neighbor with her little boy playing in the yard. I invited her and her little fella to come and play anytime. Her response was one of thanksgiving! She said, "That would be wonderful! My son only gets to interact with adults. He sees yours boys playing outside and is always wanting to be a part of what is going on." That simple interaction schooled me big time!
Needs are not nearly as complex as we make them out to be. Most often they are the simplest of gestures. Get out there! Make a difference and show the love, compassion and care of God!

Starting a grassroots movement...while cutting grass.
The desire for outreach has really been burning in my heart for sometime. I have traveled around the world and throughout the states decreeing and demonstrating the Kingdom of God, but felt little effectiveness in my own backyard. I had been seeking God about the "missing" keys or formulas that I had not yet discovered. One afternoon I got the lawnmower out, put my head phones in (listening to Jonathan David Helser) and began to cut the grass. I had no idea that my normal routine was about to be completely interrupted by the voice of God!
Right there in the middle of worship music blasting in my ears and the sound of the lawnmower blades spinning with a dull tone underneath, I began to hear Father speak. He asked me, "Do you realize that you are the key to salvation for your community?". My curiosity immediately began as He continued, "You have been focused on the needs of others everywhere else, but have neglected the needs of those right next door." He said, "It is difficult to try to have dominion in the nations of the earth when you don't have it in your own neighborhood." He then began to open my eyes to immedate needs in front of my nose.
For the next entry I will share some of the specifics of the needs of those around me. Please share this blog with others and help spread the word about the concept of "Love Thy Neighbor". Blessings.

What is "Love Thy Neighbor?"
"Love Thy Neighbor" is a simple concept that challenges the heart of every person. It is a challenge to get to know your neighbors; to know the single moms, the elderly, the families, the happy, the sad and every type of person in between. This commitment is biblical living, plain and simple. Please share ideas that you have and testimonies you have lived that might encourage others to love their neighbors too. It is time to think outside of the box. Let your light shine. Outreach starts in your own backyard. Don't be bound by the voice of fear. It only takes ONE of us to make a difference.
